Pistorius had both legs amputated below the knee before his first birthday because of a congenital condition, and campaigned for years to be allowed to compete against able bodied athletes. He was initially banned because of his blades which critics said gave him an unfair advantage before being cleared by sport's highest court in 2008. Water aerobics is easier on the joints when compared to running/jogging. When it comes to this sport, buoyancy is an important factor. Shoes for water aerobics are specially designed to increase the force of buoyancy in the water. Stability in the water becomes better with improved traction, and this is what good water aerobic shoes are meant for. Not all swimming pools are built with extra smooth surfaces, so the risk of receiving any minor cuts or scrapes is common with most people. These shoes also protect the feet from such injuries. Such shoes are made from quick drying material, and soft and removable insole. As these shoes are meant to be used in water, they need to be closed heeled. Water aerobic shoes are not only used immensely by professionals, but also by people who perform water aerobics for rapid recuperation. Cheap Womens Birkenstock Granada Sandals Green Outlet Online What specific challenges does diabetes present? There are definitely mental and physical challenges that go into it. One is that my biggest challenge that a lot other runners don't have to deal with is that I have a lot of stuff that I don't leave home without. I've got my insulin pump, it's always attached to me. I have my continuous glucose monitor, but I also have glucose tablets in case I have a low blood sugar while I'm out. I always have my phone with me in case something would go wrong and I could get a hold of somebody. I can't just lace up my shoes and head up the door, I have a lot of pre planning that has to go into going out and doing the run. How did you start running? I started with the Couch to 5K program in Clinton Township, through our parks and rec department, and I did my first 5K in April last year, and then I just kind of stuck with it. I originally intended only to do the one race but I did more 5K's, a couple 10K's then moved up to the half marathons and it just kind of snowballed from there. When it came time for the registration to open for the Free Press marathon this year, I thought, 'You know what? I'm going to try it. I think I can do it, I'm going to try to do this whole marathon.' Has running become part of your life? It really has and it's almost taken on its own life. I work full time and then I'm training for the marathon, and it's almost like you have another job. But you get so much benefit out of it, it's not like work. It's one of those things where I'm lucky enough to have a job that I enjoy and now I also have a hobby that I enjoy. So it's win win as far as how I feel, no matter what. What would you tell a fellow diabetic thinking about taking up running? The first thing I would tell them is it will not be easy and that's a big thing people should know right off the bat. But like they say, if it was easy, everyone would do it. But I think the most important thing is the benefit that you see from it. I've lost 40 pounds over the last couple years, and I've managed to keep the weight off, and my blood sugar levels have improved so much. I'm lucky to have technology to help me with that, but getting up and getting off the couch and just being active is a good start. Where are you at in your training? Up to almost 30 miles a week now. Long run on the weekends, which is usually the hardest one to fit in with the rest of our schedules and stuff. But as soon as I get home, I literally have it scheduled on my calendar, as soon as I get home during the week. The first thing I do when I get home during the week is head out the door or hit the treadmill. I'm pretty strict with my routine. And the runs are getting much longer. This weekend will be my longest run to date. I've got to do 16 miles this weekend. But I've been running four days a week for the past month and the mileage just keeps going up, and my husband thinks I'm getting crazier and crazier but he's really supportive so that helps, too. What was your first Free Press marathon experience like? It was really amazing. I had done one half before that and it was actually in Frankenmuth. It was a much smaller race, so to be in a race with tens of thousands of other people was incredible by itself, but getting to run across the Ambassador Bridge and come through the tunnel, there's nothing like it. I tell everybody, you know, that's the race you want to do.锘? Dollar and less lipsticks for sale if you are on a budget Best Budget gifts for herBuying a gift shouldn't be a struggle or a stress point. Sometimes you wish to gift the most amazing gifts for you friend, mom, auntie, grandmom or a loved one, but it can get hard when you try to fit within your budget and you don't have too many resources. It is very rare when you will find on a high street store items for a dollar or less, even when there is a sale or clearance. The thing with the world wide web is that you never know where you can get a bargain that has quality and sophistication. I am always looking for bargains, honestly. My shopping policy is why should I pay more for an item if I can pay less? Some people often buy more expensive items rather than opting for the cheaper ones, just because they are branded Loreal or Maybelline. There are so many misconceptions with branded items and the unbranded. If you hear Nike you say this is quality. If you don't know the brand you think it's cheap, it can't be good. The truth is if you would try to purchase cheap and smart you would realize the brands are just labels, nothing more, and usually they prove worthing less than their fellow sisters. Before you buy anything I just want to say you shouldn't feel ashamed or bad just because you don't have the budget to buy expensive things. I can assure you that you're not the only one. And also, the person who will get your gift won't know how much you paid for it, right? So what is it to feel embarrassed about? You know, truth is is not the value that matters, it's the gesture. The Cornell midfield came up big on the day, as Joe Boulukos and Max Seibald registered three goals each to lead the Big Red. With the win, its eighth in a row over the Crimson, Cornell improved to 7 1 overall and 2 1 in the conference, while Harvard fell to 4 3 overall and 1 1 in the league. Seibald added an assist to lead the Big Red with four points. Senior Derek Haswell also had four points on the day, registering two goals and two assists. Casey Lewis and Eric Pittard also had multipoint games for Cornell, as each tallied one goal and one assist. Mike Pisco was outstanding on defense and picked up a game and career high 10 ground balls, as well as dishing out his first assist of the season in front of a large contingent of hometown fans. Harvard's Evan Calvert registered two goals to lead the Crimson, while Greg Cohen added one. Between the pipes, Matt McMonagle made a season high 14 saves to earn the victory while Evan O'Donnell and Joe Pike split time in goal for the Crimson, with each giving up five goals and stopping four shots. THAT'S A STRETCH Cornell has racked up 39 goals in its past two games, defeating Yale (19 8) and Penn (20 5). The last time the Big Red turned in a scoring effort like that came in the 1988 season, when the team scored 23 vs. Dartmouth and posted 17 vs. Hobart in the very next game. AND THEN THERE WERE TWO Cornell is one of only two teams in the nation, along with Albany, to remain undefeated on the season. RIDING HIGH For the fourth straight week, Cornell owns the No. 1 spot in both the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll, as well as the USILA coaches poll, taking the top spot in the polls for the first time since the 1978 season. BIG RED TICKLES THE IVIES Senior Mitch Belisle has become the most recent Cornell player to be named the Ivy League Player of the Week, earning the honor on March 26 after his impressive efforts in defending one of the best players in the nation, Duke's Matt Danowski, as well as Yale's Michael Karwoski in back to back victories. Against the Blue Devils, Belisle held Danowski, who was averaging 4.67 points per game prior to the contest, to just one goal (Danowski registered a second goal when a defensive switch left him covered by an offensive midfielder). Four days later vs. the Bulldogs, Belisle held Karwoski without a point, while registering his first career goal, adding an assist and picking up five ground balls. Senior Matt McMonagle was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the Big Red defeat No. 9 Army, 7 4 on March 10. The honor was the first of the season for any Cornell player, and was just the second Player of the Week honor for McMonagle during his outstanding career. McMonagle made eight saves and allowed only four goals vs. the Black Knights, posting a .667 save percentage during the contest. The senior goalkeeper also picked up five ground balls and snagged two critical interceptions late in the game to stop Army's bid for a comeback. OFF TO A FAST START The Big Red has scored three times as many goals as its opponents in the first half of play, holding a 45 15 advantage through the first 30 minutes. SPREADING THE WEALTH All six members of Cornell's starting attack and first line midfield reached double digit points following the Big Red's sixth game of the season. Cornell outscored the Blue Devils 5 2 in the final two quarters to take the victory. DANNY DISHES Junior Danny Nathan registered the first point of his career vs. Duke when he picked up a ground ball and sent a long pass up field to assist on a score by David Mitchell.锘? percent as demand jumps in North America (Reuters) Nike Inc , the world largest footwear maker, reported a 4.1 percent rise in quarterly revenue as demand rose for its shoes and apparel in North America. Reason Your Workout Isn't Working Sounds obvious, right? But it's the culprit that's keeping so many of us from getting fitter, losing weight and seeing results. The good news is that it's easy to overcome. [Read More: Get Toned in 10 Minutes] Lack of intensity comes in many forms, but the bottom line is that people are OK with getting moderately uncomfortable during a workout, but we rarely push ourselves to the limits. We think, This is uncomfortable, I'm sweating, I'm moving and that's good enough. But it's not enough, not if your goal includes big changes. Our bodies are stronger than our minds let us believe, but it's our instinct to pace ourselves to preserve energy in order to make it through a workout. [Read More: 8 Energy Boosting Foods] That's the problem with most 45 to 60 minute workouts: The levels of intense segments are too long for us to really push the limits, so we lower our effort level to a state that allows us to preserve our energy. Nike got it right: Just do it. There is no try. The first step is deciding to take on the challenge. Don't just promise yourself to work a little harder, commit to a certain time slot each day. 2. Have a Plan. When you go in with a purpose, you'll maximize your time. You'll be able to push so much harder if you know you only have 30 seconds before a break. 3. Be in the Moment. Rather than trying to work out for a long period of time, focus on what you're doing. Don't think about what's ahead concentrate on the interval at hand. It's better to go hard on your first couple of intervals and need more recovery between each one than it is to sail through all of them without needing the recovery. You can do anything for a limited period of time, and it allows your body (and mind) to push harder than it could for unknown time intervals. 4. Don't Multitask. It might be tempting to fire off emails on the stationary bike or browse Instagram on your phone, but don't do it. Your workout should be the time you disconnect from the world and focus on working your body. Up the intensity by using the timer on the machine to do intervals, keep active recovery under 60 seconds and cap workouts at 45 minutes. Get Uncomfortable. Don't be afraid to get breathless. Keep that goal at the front of your mind. Think faster. Cardio loving distance runners may prioritize pacing and mileage, but try adding sprint bursts to your runs. Sprinting all out for 10 sets of 30 to 60 seconds can blast more fat and energy in less time than a long run. Add some intensity and variety to workouts by performing shuttle runs, hill sprints or 100 meter repeats with short recovery periods in between. Not running? You can do this with anything: On a bike? Bike faster. On the elliptical? Go harder. 6. Change Up Your Workouts. Don't stagnate. You'll get more out of accumulating a series of short, high intensity intervals than a long steady state workout. Of course, you need to do both, but if it's results you're after and you're not finding them fast enough, you need to reevaluate how hard you're working. I promise: Exercise does work, but you have to keep up the intensity levels. Here are five go to interval workouts, no equipment required. (Note: These routines give you the framework; you decide how hard you can do an exercise.) Please note: There are many other factors that could be obstacles in keeping you from results, such as consistency and diet. But in my experience, intensity is the number one problem I've noticed when it comes to the time people spend working out!
